We are a family-owned, free-house in one of the prettiest villages in the Lake District. This 17th century chocolate-box coaching inn in the heart of the village now boosts a cosy bar, restaurant, eight individually designed bedrooms and a 1 bedroom cottage.
Local ales and a modern twist on pub classic dishes
We want to showcase the best of Cumbrian food and ales. Our menu features traditional dishes with a fresh approach made with the local ingredients; the same is true of our ales.
We are proud to be awarded an AA Rosette for Culinary Excellence and a 4 Gold Star Inn rating.

The Cosy Bar
Pop in for a post-walk pint or enjoy a pre-dinner drink whilst relaxing in our traditional bar steeped in history...with oak beams, slate floors, a roaring fire and a warm smile.
No need to book as our bar is walk-ins only for lunch and dinner. Four-legged friends are welcome on the slate floor in our bar.
The Eating Room
The perfect place for long lunches, cosy suppers or family Sunday roasts. The Eating Room is walk-ins at lunch, whilst reservations are required for evening service. This means that everyone can sample those delicious pub classics or local seasonal specials.
Our Rooms
Our bedrooms feature crisp cotton sheets, invigorating showers and interiors inspired by the British countryside. We have 2 of each room type, cosy doubles, kings, superkings, superkings/twin; all individually designed and named after Kings of England. Metres away from the pub we have Alice's Cottage, a self-contained 1 bedroom haven, boosting restored period features.
